 Overview

[R.002] The Hate Speech Act was a LBP Union General Assembly resolution. It is best known for being the first resolution that the General Assembly passed following the ratification of the Novus Carta and for establishing the Union's policy against hate speech and trolling.

Origin

The resolution was first drafted in 2014 by New California Republic representative CCSocalGamer, and sat on the General Assembly floor for over a year without enough endorsements to gain it quorum. On May 23rd, 2015, the proposal gained enough endorsements to gain quorum and subsequently go to vote among the representatives. Endorsing the proposal were representatives CCSocalGamer (NCR), TeamHeidi (TME), xXWaterSoul13Xx (OrgXIII), TheMarker_1 (OrgXIII), dugrog73 (?), and Acostaboys310 (RCMP). The proposal passed into law unanimously on May 31st, 2015.

Details

The Hate Speech Act attempts to define hate speech, as well as outline the Union's policy for dealing with it. The resolution loosely defines the act of hate speech, and then outlines a very vague plan for the Union to take action. The document also details who the LBP Union would support, those being victims of hate speech so long as the assistance was requested by the victimized group.

The act was cited by the Visarian Containment Resolution as justification for the intervention of the Union Security Council in helping to protect furries and to oppose the expansion of the Visarian Mandate.

The full text of the resolution can be found here.
