The LBP Union Peacekeepers is the Union's moderation division responsible for securing and protecting its Discord server.

Early History

2013-2014

There are some mentions of 'Peacekeepers' in the LBP Union following its December 2013 reformation. On February 11th, 2014, President m88youngling wrote about how he had threatened Soldier-Boy_714 with LBP Union Peacekeepers in response to the Soldier Wolves plotting a civil war. m88youngling wrote that Subjectdelta2 was the current Minister of Security at the time, which would have made them responsible for any active Peacekeepers. However, little is known about if there were any Peacekeepers during that time at all.

2015-2016

The LBP Union Peacekeepers were first formally established on April 20th, 2015 by the Novus Carta. Their role was specifically laid out in the document as,

The Minister of Security also shall manage the LittleBigPlanet Union Peacekeepers. The Minister of Security shall appoint the Commissioner of the Union Peacekeepers to administer the Union Peacekeepers. The Peacekeepers shall be in charge of enforcing Union Resolutions by identifying criminals and assisting member states in internal security issues.

The Novus Carta uniquely established the Peacekeepers as having a core capability of conducting an 'arrest', which was defined as follows:

When a Union member is placed under arrest, they are restricted from attending Union meetings and taking part in other Union affairs. They can only be put under arrest for twenty four hours unless there is evidence that they have violated the Novus Carta or a Union resolution. An arrest does not restrict the civil and player rights of the individual. An arrest also prevents the individual from leaving the Union. If an individual has been arrested and there is evidence, they should be given a trial to determine their guilt.

There is no record of an 'arrest' taking place in the LBP Union while the Novus Carta was in force between 2015 and the Union's collapse in 2016.

2017

In September of 2017, the LBP Union's modern Discord server established the Peacekeeper moderator role, responsible for securing and protecting the Discord guild from threats and enforcing the Union's rules.

Modern Day

2021

The Peacekeeper Deputy role was created alongside several other ranks.

The 2017 Discord role remained mostly unchanged for four years until the LittleBigPlanet server crisis of 2021, which saw a great influx of new members to LBP Union's Discord server. This required the Peacekeepers to scale proportionately to meet the growing population and activity. On March 20th, the Peacekeeper team began using the bot UnbelievaBoat to execute and track all moderation actions.

On September 3rd, 2021, m88youngling published a blog post on LBPUnion.com describing the role of the Peacekeeper team and its relationship with the Pathfinder team. The article featured several promotional images for the Peacekeeper team and established its core values by emphasizing the importance of integrity, fairness, and using moderator actions sparingly. The values, methods and objective of the Peacekeeper team were inspired by m88youngling's previous experiences witnessing unfair or dysfunctional moderation in other communities, especially with regards to contemporary LittleBigPlanet communities like LittleBigHome.

These actions began to be tracked in the #action-log channel on July 25th, 2021. This was in response to a dispute between Lead Protector m88youngling and Leafar^{[citation needed]} about moderation cases 10 and 11.

By the end of August, the Peacekeeper team was split into a ranked hierarchy to expand the team further with each rank having different permissions. On August 21st, m88youngling explained that ccsocalgamer was the Peacekeeper Captain, with Ezoiar, 'Connor', ShinigamiPhantom, and Leafar as officers. UnrulySoda was a deputy at that time. On August 23rd, the 'Security Office' channel was established for the security leadership team, which included the Peacekeeper Captains and Pathfinder Rangers.

On October 15th, axolotl_mage was appointed Peacekeeper Captain, replacing ccsocalgamer. However, following their promotion to Minister of Security^{[citation needed]} , on November 22nd SamuraiEzoiar was appointed as Peacekeeper Captain.

2023

On July 7th, 2023, the LBP Union Peacekeepers began using Zipline, an evidence repository hosted by sudokoko. This enabled the Peacekeepers to utilize image links to the Zipline service for moderation cases to prevent images from expiring on Discord's CDN.

Ezoiar would serve as Captain for two years and 23 days before namesdominicc would take the helm on December 11th, 2023. Ezoiar moved into his new role as wiki director.

2024

By August 3rd, 2024, namesdominicc had been appointed as Minister of Relations. Subsequently, he announced that kysoy would take up his former position as Peacekeeper Captain, ending Dominic's term at seven months and 18 days. On December 21st, 2024, Lead Protector m88youngling removed Soy from his position as Peacekeeper Captain, and the position has been vacant ever since.

Structure

Current Structure

In the modern day, the LBP Union Peacekeepers operate with a hierarchy identified by Discord roles. These are, ^{[citation needed]}

1. Captain: responsible for administrating the entire unit.
2. Senior Lieutenant: second in command to the captain.
3. Lieutenant: secondary leadership team members. This rank and above can remove and edit cases.
4. Officer: can issue bans.
5. Deputy: can issue warnings and mutes, but not bans.

The Peacekeepers utilize Unbelievaboat to execute and record moderation commands, as well as zipline.lbpunion.com to record evidence screenshots.
