This guide will show you how to contribute translations to LBP Union's platforms.

Before You Start

Do I need to be an LBP Union team member to contribute translations?

No. You can submit translation proposals to our contributor form (TBD). We still highly encourage you to consider joining our team, as it will put you in direct contact with editors. You can also help translate some content before it's released to ensure that it's available as soon as possible!

What do you want to translate?

There are a few areas that you can contribute translations to:

  • Our main website (www.lbpunion.com): our main landing pages and news can be localized. The site runs on WordPress.
  • Project Lighthouse: the open source code that powers Beacon custom servers can be translated using the CrowdIn platform.
  • Wiki: you're here! We still need to set up a translation system for the wiki, but it's on our roadmap.

Translating on Each Platform

Main Website

Guest Contributors

If you are a guest contributor and are not part of our team, you can submit a guest translation contribution to our guest post form (WIP). Follow this approach:

  1. Copy and paste the page or article you want to translate into a markdown or plain text editor like Notepad. Focus only on the text.
  2. Translate away! If you need to make notes for formatting or to indicate special things like container boxes, add comments with a consistent format in the text.
  3. Submit the plain text markdown translation to our guest content form (WIP)

Your submission will be reviewed by an editor. If it's published to the site, you will be credited unless you specify that you do not want to be credited.

Team Contributors

If you a contributor on our team, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new markdown file in the translations folder. Select Draft translations to start.
  2. Copy and paste the page or article you want to translate into the markdown file. Trim it down to focus only on the text.
  3. Translate away! If you need to make notes for formatting or to indicate special things like container boxes, add comments with a consistent format in the text.
  4. Submit the plain text markdown translation for review by moving the file to the ```Proposed translations``` folder. Let an editor know on Discord or the Scribe forum category that your project is ready for review.

Project Lighthouse CrowdIn

  1. Visit the CrowdIn page
  2. Click into the language you want to contribute to
  3. Select an item and log in
  4. Follow the directions on the page to write the translation and submit for approval
  5. If there are pending translations, please let an editor know so they can review and merge them
